Thoriated Tungsten electrodes are a popular choice due to their durability and ease of use. They will operate far below their melting point, which not only keeps the arc from wandering but also lowers the rate of consumption of each electrode. As well, thoriated electrodes will add less tungsten into the weld puddle, for much less weld contamination. Ideal for AC welding of thin gauge aluminum and other materials of gauges of less than 0.06″, as well as electode negative or straight polarity DC welding.
